Associate Lawyer
Sarah Northwood

Sarah Northwood attended Simon Fraser University, where she graduated with distinction in 2014 with a dual major Bachelor of Arts-Environment in Geography and Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies. She completed her law degree at the University of Victoria in 2020.

During her time at the University of Victoria, Sarah obtained practical experience through the University's Co-Op Program, and through a semester with the Law Centre Clinical Program. As a volunteer with Pro-Bono Students Canada, Sarah helped to establish a Trans ID Clinic and assisted people in navigating the complex and stressful process of obtaining updated government identification. She also volunteered with the Environmental Law Centre, and held an executive role with Outlaws, a student-led LGBT advocacy group on campus.

After graduating, Sarah articled at a mid-sized law firm, working predominantly in legal aid family law, alongside refugee and child protection matters. This experience provided Sarah with valuable skills in handling high-conflict family law matters. While this work taught Sarah to recognize the necessity of litigation in some cases, it also illustrated the value and importance of searching for collaborative solutions to even the most contentious and complex family law issues.

Outside of work, Sarah spends most of her time with her wife, Elizabeth, their geriatric cat Percy and their rescue dog Fresca. She also loves cooking, travel, and most things science fiction.
